Diameter measurements in transverse plane:
>3.0 cm abdominal aorta
>2.0 cm common iliac artery
>1.5 cm common femoral artery
>1.0 cm popliteal artery
Any arterial or venous segment that enlarges 1.5 x the most proximal normal contiguous segment
Ectasia: enlargement of an artery that does not meet aneurysmal criteria
Fusiform Aneurysm: Walls distended full circumference of the arterial wall
Saccular Aneurysm: An eccentric distended sac affecting only part of the circumference of the arterial wall; bulging of one wall
True Aneurysm: Dilation that includes all layers of the arterial wall
False Aneurysm / Pseudoaneurysm: area of active flow outside the vessel wall that is contained by the adventitia or surrounding tissues (contained hematoma) due to a hole or puncture in the wall
Note: When reporting aneurysm size, comparison should be made to findings from any prior examinations.
